The idea.

LCARS is the computer interface seen across Star Trek, from The Next Generation through to Picard. I’ve been drawing my own versions of it for years: ship schematics, master systems displays, bridge and engineering panels.

In 2023 I gave that work a home. LCARS Workshop is where I share it, original interface art made with a fan’s eye for the details. Its line says it best: interface art for every corner of the fleet.

It isn’t a business plan. It’s about sharing the work and giving something back to a community I love.

What I built.

A WooCommerce site on my own hosting, split into clear collections so fans can find what they’re after, whether that’s something for their screen, their wall or their wardrobe.

Wallpapers: Over 150 and counting: ship schematics, master systems displays, bridge stations, engineering panels and more, in versions for desktop, phone, tablet and ultrawide screens. A new one goes out free every week.
Merch: T-shirts featuring ship schematics and Starfleet Academy designs, printed to order through Printful, so there’s no stock to hold and nothing to post myself.
Custom pieces: Personalised ship emblems, dedication plaques and letters, made to order as digital downloads.
Commissions: One-off wallpapers and master systems displays designed around a ship or a crew of a fan’s choosing.

Giving back.

The heart of it is the free wallpaper that goes out every week, so anyone can put a bit of the fleet on their screen without spending a penny. Supporters on Patreon get exclusive work and a look behind the scenes, and The LCARS Log, a quarterly newsletter, rounds up new designs, sneak peeks and what I’m working on.

The result

What started as wallpapers for my own screens has become something shared with fans all over the world, with over 30,970 downloads and a new free wallpaper every week. Every part of it, from the artwork to the site, is designed, built and looked after by me.
